It was a day of high tension at Buganda Road Court as former FDC President, Dr. Kizza Besigye, and Political Activist Lubega Mukaaku, made a dramatic appearance for their ongoing trial.
The charges against them revolved around accusations of inciting the public to violence during a demonstration in downtown Kampala on June 14, 2022.
As the courtroom buzzed with anticipation, the prosecution requested for adjournment citing the absence of crucial police witnesses due to the ongoing NAM Conference.

However, the defense, led by FDC President and Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, vehemently opposed the adjournment. Lukwago dismissed it as not only flimsy but outright false, pointing out that the NAM/G77 Conferences had already concluded. He also accused the prosecutor of committing perjury, urging the trial Magistrate to take note.
In a subsequent press address, Dr. Kizza Besigye characterized the trial as another chapter in the regime’s ongoing persecution of political opponents. He called on the courts to resist becoming pawns in what he deemed as government schemes.
Despite the courtroom theatrics, the trial was adjourned to February 14, 2024.
