Azawi has sent shockwaves through the Ugandan music scene after boldly accusing some veteran musicians of using witchcraft
Swangz Avenue sensation Azawi has sent shockwaves through the Ugandan music scene after boldly accusing some veteran musicians of using witchcraft, and a whole lot of bad energy, to block rising stars.

In a fiery conversation on Frank Ntambi’s YouTube podcast, Azawi didn’t sugarcoat a thing. She claimed that certain older artists don’t just lack goodwill toward newcomers but also, they allegedly go the extra mile to hinder them.
“First of all, they don’t wish others well. Secondly, they are thieves. And thirdly, they practice witchcraft,” Azawi declared, holding absolutely nothing back.
She described such industry players as “devils,” saying many fresh creatives struggle not because they lack talent, but because the so-called gatekeepers refuse to make room for new voices.

According to her, the tension between old and new musicians goes far beyond healthy competition. Azawi says that it’s a mix of jealousy, greed, and what she calls “harmful practices” that keep emerging stars from shining.
And Azawi isn’t standing alone on this hill. Over the years, artists like Spice Diana, Dianah Nalubega, and David Lutalo have also spoken out about alleged witchcraft, sabotage, and toxic rivalry lurking behind the curtain of Uganda’s beloved entertainment industry.
