In a twist worthy of a Ugandan drama series, singer-turned-aspiring politician Nina Roz, found herself balancing the emotional weight of family turmoil and public scrutiny after her dad, Matia Nshemereire, was arrested over a cattle theft case earlier this month.
The saga began on November 9, 2025, when police investigations linked Matia to a cattle theft incident in Rutunku, Lugusulu Sub-county, a quiet rural area that happens to border Sevo’s Kisozi farm in Gomba District. The news sent shockwaves through Nina’s supporters, many of whom had been rallying behind her rising political star.
But as her father’s freedom hung in the balance, Nina Roz pressed pause on her campaign trail. Gone were the microphones, the rallies, and the familiar glitz of the stage. In their place stood a daughter determined to stand by her family.
18 November 2025 brought a moment of relief.
At the Ssembabule Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Judge Jaggwe Raymond, both Nina and her father appeared before a packed courtroom. After days of uncertainty, Mr. Matia Nshemereire was granted UGX 1 million cash bail, while his two sureties were bonded at UGX 3 million non-cash. Nina herself was also granted bail, allowing both father and daughter to walk out of court, at least for now.
The case, however, is far from over. Mr. Matia must return to court on December 2, 2025, as investigations continue unfolding.
