The corruption case that shook Parliament has officially collapsed.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Lino Anguzu has dropped all charges against Bunyole East MP Yusuf Mutembuli, Lwengo Woman MP Cissy Namujju Dionizia, and Busiki County MP Paul Akamba, ending a high-profile Anti-Corruption Court battle that has dragged on since 2024.

In a Nolle Prosequi filed on January 6, 2026, the DPP informed the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court that the Government of Uganda would no longer pursue the case.

The three lawmakers had been accused of demanding kickbacks from Uganda Human Rights Commission chairperson Mariam Wangadya, allegedly asking for a five percent cut in exchange for influencing Parliament to increase the Commission’s budget.

Court records show that prosecutors claimed Mutembuli told the UHRC boss that it was “normal practice” for MPs to receive a percentage of enhanced budgets and even attempted to arrange a meeting at Hotel Africana to discuss the matter.

The arrests in May and June 2024 sent shockwaves through the political establishment and sparked intense public debate about corruption and abuse of office among legislators.

However, with the filing of the nolle prosequi, the case registered as AC-CO-0078-2024 has now been officially terminated, bringing legal relief to the MPs and drawing mixed reactions from the public.

The withdrawal means the state has abandoned the prosecution, closing one of the most closely watched corruption cases involving sitting Members of Parliament in recent years.
