In a candid reflection, Kats admitted that introducing singer Fille to the mainstream music scene is one of his biggest regrets
MC Kats has made a rare and emotional confession, one that pulls back the curtain on the harsh realities of Uganda’s music industry and the heavy price of fame.
In a candid reflection, Kats admitted that introducing singer Fille to the mainstream music scene is one of his biggest regrets, saying the industry ultimately overwhelmed her and pushed her down a destructive path.

At her peak, Fille was unstoppable a chart-topper, crowd favorite, and one of the most booked female artists in the country. Kats revealed that he fought tooth and nail to ensure she stayed ahead of the competition, especially Irene Ntale, who at the time posed a serious threat.
But behind the hits and hype, the pressure was quietly piling up.
According to Kats, fame came too fast and too heavy. Fille, he said, was not mentally or emotionally prepared for the ruthless demands of the industry. In trying to cope, with competition, expectations, and influence from those around her…she turned to drugs.
“Have you ever sat down and regretted something you did? It is good, but you regret it,” Kats said. “As Ugandans, we do not prepare for this industry. Some people are not naturally mentally and emotionally strong for it.”
He painted a sobering picture of an industry where pressure, lack of hit songs, competition, bad influence, and substance abuse collide often with devastating consequences.
Kats also shared a painful behind-the-scenes story from the height of Fille’s career. After receiving huge funding to shoot “Where Have You Been At,” a song initially meant to feature Radio & Weasel, things fell apart when Fille, under the influence, missed a crucial appointment.

Panicked and desperate to account for the money, Kats improvised. He rushed to producer Artin, had Dokta Brain write a new song, and got Jeff to approve it. But by the time it was ready for shooting with Great Make Films, the funds were gone.
The sacrifice? A piece of his own land sold to finish the video.
His most painful reflection, however, was deeply personal.
“My regret is that I should have left her in church and sung Gospel music,” Kats said. “I got her from Miracle Center. I would have left her to sing for God. Fille never used to drink and she learnt it.”
