Hardly a week after teenager Martin Bukenya, was laid to rest, shock and outrage continues to grip Wakiso District.

Bukenya, 18, was ruthlessly clobbered to death by his nemesis also father to his alleged girlfriend Herbert Lumu Musasizi, 41, on Valentine’s Day.

Musasizi, who was arrested in Gulu last week by a crime intelligence team, has since been transferred to Matugga Police Station, where the alleged murder occurred. Police are expected to conduct a reconstruction of the crime scene on Monday to piece together how the confrontation escalated and to strengthen the case for prosecution.

The young victim, a student at Hillside Secondary School in Matugga and resident of Kirinyabigo, Kawanda, reportedly visited Musasizi’s home in Mabanda Cell, Gombe Division, to see his 14-year-old girlfriend when the deadly incident occurred.

Rumours swirling previously claimed that Bukenya had been warned in December not to return to Musasizi’s home. Mabanda Cell Chairman Kizito said Bukenya and the girl were even tested for HIV and pregnancy, with Bukenya’s mother allegedly pledging to caution him.

However, Bukenya’s mother, Imelda Nakiyembe, has strongly denied attending any such meeting. “I had never been to that place, and I didn’t know the girl’s father. I am sure even the girl’s father doesn’t know me because we have never met,” she told police and media.

Her statements have raised questions about who Bukenya presented as his mother during the earlier December incident. Neighbours say the teen had spent at least two days at the girl’s house while Musasizi was away working in Gulu and his wife was in Canada.

A neighbour revealed shocking details: “In the first incident, Herbert returned from Gulu, and one of his children told him that their ‘uncle’ was in the bedroom. Herbert opened the room and saw the boy. The children said the ‘uncle’ would hide whenever people came around.” Reports suggest the girl, aged 17, even told siblings that Bukenya was their uncle.

Bukenya was laid to rest in Kinoni, Lwengo District, on Tuesday. Teachers described him as humble, intelligent, calm, and quiet.

Police in Matugga and Kawempe say Musasizi will appear in court this week on murder charges.

The upcoming reconstruction is expected to provide clarity on the tragic sequence of events that turned a Valentine’s Day visit into a fatal encounter.
