Chaos erupted in Ntunda Town Council on Wednesday when an angry mob stormed a forest crime scene and lynched a murder suspect in police custody.
The victim, Amon Senkula, had been arrested just a day earlier for the brutal killing of Sentongo Awali and his wife, Doreen Ayebare, whose bodies were discovered on February 14, 2026.
Police say Senkula had confessed to the murders and led detectives to a forest in Bakulimya Village, Ndairinga Ward, where he claimed to have hidden the murder weapon. But as officers, led by the District Police Commander, tried to recover the exhibit, furious residents from Ntunda and nearby areas descended on the scene armed with sticks, stones, clubs, and pangas.
In a shocking turn, the mob overpowered the police and attacked Senkula, killing him on the spot before fleeing.
Before his arrest, police had linked Senkula to several violent crimes in 2026, including attempted murder and kidnapping.
SSP Lameck Kigozi, Wamala Region police spokesperson, condemned the lynching, calling it unlawful and a major setback to justice.
“Our plan was to prosecute him in court. This mob action denies the victims justice and is itself a serious crime,” Kigozi said.
Police have launched investigations to track down those behind the lynching, warning that anyone found culpable will face prosecution.
