It was a dramatic early morning in Nateete when suspected cattle thieves abandoned a vehicle and fled, leaving behind two live cows during a police operation.

At around 4:00am, security officers acting on a tip-off intercepted a silver Toyota X-Trail registration number UAS 521W in Busega, opposite the main market.

But sensing danger, the occupants bolted, disappearing into the darkness and leaving behind the suspected stolen animals inside the vehicle.

Police quickly secured the scene and recovered the cows, which are believed to have been stolen.

The vehicle has since been impounded and taken to Nateete Police Station as investigations intensify.

Police spokesperson Rachel Kawala confirmed that a case of possession of suspected stolen cattle has been opened, and efforts are underway to hunt down the suspects.

Meanwhile, security has tightened its grip on crime across the city.

In a sweeping operation in Nateete and Busega under Rubaga Division, police arrested 30 suspects linked to various criminal activities.

In a separate incident in Bweyogerere, two suspects were arrested while attempting to break into shops in Bbuto Zone. A metal tool believed to have been intended for the break-in was recovered.

All suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court.
