The Accountant will play a critical role in supporting the financial operations of Mirage Uganda limited, ensuring accurate accounting, compliance with financial and tax regulations, and the delivery of timely financial reports. The accountant will act as a key operational partner, supporting the implementation of internal controls and providing accurate financial insights to help achieve strategic objectives.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily accounting operations, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, payroll and journal adjustments.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts' financial statements in compliance with IFRS and company policies.
  • Support the Finance Controller in reviewing financial data for accuracy and transparency.
  • Ensure proper tax planning for the company.
  • Ensure accurate preparation, filing of all tax returns and compliance with Uganda tax regulations and other local statutory requirements.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely vendor payments and accurate customer invoicing.
  • Monitor working capital cycles and assist in optimizing cash flow management.
  • Prepare reconciliations for bank accounts, accounts receivable, and payable balances.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during audits, ensuring timely submission of required documents and resolution of audit findings.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, local tax laws, and accounting standards.
  • Support the Finance Controller in identifying and mitigating financial risks.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Act as a key partner to the Finance Controller and cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment on financial objectives and operations.
  • Maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to other teams, fostering a collaborative and solutions-oriented culture.
  • Maintenance of up-to-date fixed asset register indicating due diligence checks covering existence, valuation, ownership and working conditions.
  • Supervises the EFRIS and URA portal communications.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • CPA, ACCA or equivalent professional certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or Finance with demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, compliance, Tax and general ledger Management.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of IFRS and Ugandan Tax regulations.
  • Mask the detail oriented, with strong analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
