About This Role
Period of Assignment: 33 months (One-year renewable contracts)
Required Experience and Education
• Certificate in Agriculture or a related field. A Diploma in Agriculture or a related field will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in dairy goat and or poultry farming
• Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, breeding and health care practices.
• On-the-Farm experience in an emergency setting is an added advantage.
Primary Responsibilities
• Supervise and train farm staff including hiring, scheduling and performance evaluation
• Maintain the health and welfare of livestock, including nutrition, vaccination and treatment of illnesses ensuring compliance with animal welfare regulations and environmental guidelines at all times.
• Oversee the breeding, raising and health of dairy goats and poultry.
• Train/build capacity of on-farm and farmer groups in livestock farming in relation to approved standard procedures and guidelines from MAAIF and the Advisory services.
• Implement pest and weed control programs and routines to maintain high quality pastures.
• Manage milk production and egg collection, ensuring quality standards are met.
• Ensure farm machinery and equipment are in sound operational condition at all times.
• Keep accurate animal health, milk production, egg collection and any other farm activities.
• Coordinate the marketing and sale of dairy products and eggs including distribution to the early learning centers
• Work in consultation with the Livelihood Project Officer to plan and manage the farm budget, including income and expenditure.
• Work with “Good Farmers” and relevant institutions/individuals for training, mentorship and skills building for farmer groups.
• Respond to any other inquiries or issues regarding the health and welfare of livestock
Required Competencies
• Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team.
• Willingness to immerse into the Palorinya refugee settlement and regularly travel across the project sites.
• Ability to ride motorcycles while conducting field activities.
• Demonstrable experience in delivering interventions in humanitarian settings
• Clear knowledge and understanding of Sphere standards and HAAP (Humanitarian Accountability to the Affected persons)
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural/ethnic communities
