Responsibilities or duties

Developing and sharing design ideas using CAD software to fellow staff;

Investigating the properties of materials like glass, steel and concrete and give advice on the appropriate materials to use;

Working out the loads and stresses on different parts of a structure;

Supervising and managing civil engineering projects to ensure that they are completed in accordance to the set standards;

Preparing reports to management on the Civil Engineering activities in the agreed format;

Conducting inspections on all building projects to determine un safe buildings, drainage systems, roads and recommend options for repairs or demolition;

Providing Technical advice to managers and staff on all aspects of civil engineering works of the division in accordance to building regulation guidelines, environmental standards and health and safety requirements;

Preparing bids for tenders, supervising project teams and giving progress reports to supervisor; and

Supervising and appraising subordinate staff.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

• An honors Bachelor’s degree in either Civil Engineering or Construction Management from a recognized university or institution of higher learning;
