Welthungerhilfe

Welthungerhilfe is a development and humanitarian aid organization based in Germany. It is one of the largest private aid organizations in Germany, independent of political parties and religious denominations. Welthungerhilfe is committed to fighting hunger and poverty worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vehicle maintenance as per the Welthungerhilfe Maintenance regulations
  • Carry out daily checks before starting up the vehicle as per checklist
  • Maintain the vehicle in clean condition
  • Ensure that the security toolbox, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and other safety kits as per the vehicle checklist are complete and on board.
  • Report mechanical problems, accidents or theft immediately to the Supervisor or Police as described in the Welthungerhilfe regulations
  • Inform Supervisor when vehicle will be due for service and if any major repairs to be carried out.
  • Solve minor technical / mechanical problems and escalate issues beyond.
  • Monitor fuel usage, mileage, and vehicle performance for assigned vehicles.
  • Ensure all vehicles have up-to-date insurance, registration, and inspection certifications
  • Maintain inventory of tools, spare parts, and mechanical supplies in the vehicle and make requests for refills where necessary

Record keeping

  • Maintain vehicle logbook and record all trips clearly with start and end mileage, destination, purpose – ensure that the information is entered in the digital fleet wave system.
  • Record in logbook fueling and service of the vehicle both in hard copy logbook and d=fleet wave
  • Prepare and submit vehicle inspection report on a weekly basis to Logistics supervisor in charge.

Provision of reliable and secure driving services.

  • Obey traffic laws, i.e. speed limits in urban areas and highways, road traffic signs and taking care before overtaking any other vehicle.
  • Ensuring that passengers wear their seat belts and briefed before any trip takes off.
  • Keep all personal documents as well as those of the vehicle with you and check that they are valid (driving license, insurance paper)
  • Collect and safely deliver any other materials / documents as may be requested.
  • Always provide information and guidance to passengers on Welthungerhilfe Vehicle regulations for compliance as a safety measure
  • Support the goods loading and unloading of the vehicle and goods in an appropriate way from source to destination and ensure related documentation is signed and checked.
  • Ensure that non-Welthungerhilfe staff sign a Waiver of Liability form and briefed about the content.
  • With respect to the travel window, any deviations must have received prior approval from the Country Director.

Required Qualifications, Competencies and Experience

  • A minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) is a must
  • Valid driving license with Classes B, DL, CM is a must with a clean record
  • A minimum of 05 years’ experience and training with legally recognized organizations (Preferably NGO and Business Organizations)
  • A certificate and experience in auto mechanics will be an added advantage
  • Certificate in Defensive driving skills is an added advantage
  • Ability to work under pressing social and natural environment and motivated and committed
  • An open and reliable person with high integrity
  • A good command of both spoken and written English is necessary with capacity to use the computer (Basic skills is required) and a smart phone for data entry. Ability to communicate in local languages spoken in the project area is an added advantage.
  • Flexible and willing to work upcountry and outside normal office hours
  • Sensitive to personal and organizational security policies
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
