The IDI's GHS department seeks to hire a bioinformatics scientist graduate trainee who will support the department to develop bioinformatics solutions, conducting data analysis, and advising on genomics-related aspects of the project. Additionally, the scientist will provide leadership in the bioinformatics domain, support proposal development for follow-up projects, and contribute to the analysis, documentation, and dissemination of study findings.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and optimise bioinformatics workflows and data analysis pipelines for viral genome sequencing.
Analyse and interpret high-throughput sequencing data.
Perform metagenomic analysis to detect pathogens and assess co-infections.
Conduct phylogenetic analysis to infer evolutionary relationships and characterise viral diversity.
Support the development and training of team members in bioinformatics tools and methodologies.
Collaborate with other teams to integrate genomic data with epidemiological and clinical datasets.
Prepare technical reports, publications, and presentations summarising bioinformatics findings.
Academic Qualifications
Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or a related field.
Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Person Specification
Strong proficiency in bioinformatics tools and software for Sequence Analysis, Phylogenetics, Metagenomics, and Data visualisation.
Hands-on experience with programming languages and environments such as Python, SAS, R, and Unix/Linux shell scripting.
Familiarity with genomic databases and public bioinformatics resources.
Knowledge of data governance, security, and ethical considerations in handling genomic and health data.
Track record of peer-reviewed publications in genomics, bioinformatics, or related fields.
