PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To Develop, establish, lead, guide and manage the strategy for the Bank to mitigate risks and enable the business to achieve its strategic objectives.
MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide legal advisory to the Bank to ensure compliance with internal and external corporate governance and legal requirements.
Provide leadership to the Legal Unit and provide effective supervision and training of the department staff.
Provide Company and associate services to the Board and Shareholders and ensure efficient and effective board management as well as corporate governance.
Ensure that all departments are supported to minimize legal risks and support implementing appropriate courses of action that have been taken where applicable.
Review and guide management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures.
Manage external counsel to ensure the bank receives services in line with agreed terms and service level agreements in place.
Review all documentation and correspondence between the bank and the company’s employees.
Manage the performance of all staff in the department and ensure alignment of departmental objectives to the bank strategy.
Defend and protect the legal interests of the Company’s e. litigation, IP, government affairs and compliance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Laws degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
A minimum of seven years’ post-enrolment experience in either active legal practice (Higabon base) in a reputable law firm, as in-house counsel in a financial institution or large reputable institution
Certificate to practice an a lawyer in a national jurisdiction
At least six years of experience in a Financial Institution at Management level
Possession of LISA qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCES
Particularly with the Banking, Finance and Insurance Laws and Hotel practices in the respective fields
Good writing, communication and recording skills
Excellent analytical skills with proven ability to provide support and sound legal advice
Self-driven with a high level of confidentiality
Ability to multitask and meet set deadlines
