JOB PURPOSE

To appraise the internal controls in place and provide an independent assurance and advisory services on the effectiveness of the Bank’s framework of risk management, control, and governance processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in the design of the banks audit programs for existing and new processes, products, and services.
  • Perform assurance and consulting engagements as assigned to assess the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of established controls and procedures.
  • Identify and assess risks for each auditable unit in the bank and test the effectiveness and efficiency of the control design as assigned.
  • Obtain agreed actions after detailed discussion of audit findings and recommendations with process owners.
  • Prepare draft audit reports on issues detected in non-compliance with bank policies, procedural guidelines, and regulatory requirements, for discussion with management and further submission to the line Manager and Head of Audit.
  • Review periodical statutory/regulatory reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review information accessed from the different systems operated by the Bank for completeness and accuracy of the reports they generate.
  • Conduct regular follow-up on open audit findings to ascertain adequate implementation by management, and their effective closure in the Audit Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with the Global Internal Audit Standards, Ethics and Professionalism.
  • Conduct special tasks as assigned by the Head of Audit as part of advisory or consulting in line with executing the Internal Audit mandate.

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performing risk assessments on key business activities and using this information to guide what to cover in audits.
  • Agreeing recommendations with relevant process owners to manage identified risks and preparing audit reports to highlight issues on risk and controls.
  • Assessing how well the reviewed units are complying to the relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and internal policies, and informing management of those issues that need addressing.
  • Conducting follow-up of outstanding audit recommendations ensuring the relevant actions are implemented.
  • Reviewing regulatory returns/reports and providing constructive and timely feedback to those charged with their preparation, and ensuring the relevant corrections are made before submission.
