CURE International is a global nonprofit network of children’s hospitals that provide surgical care in a compassionate, gospel-centered environment. Services are provided at no cost to families because of the generosity of donors and partners around the world.
The International Accounting Manager provides support and oversight to CURE’s hospitals in Africa ensuring consistency and compliance with CURE’s mission, core values and operating guidelines. This position maintains a special focus on providing accounting support, financial integrity and record keeping by supporting the hospitals in budget preparation, compliance, and reporting. The International Accounting Manager is also responsible for internal audit and review functions for the hospitals and assists in policy and standards creation and implementation.
The work location for this position can be remote work from a location on the continent of Africa or hospital based from a CURE Hospital location if one is located in your home country. Relocation is not offered for this position. All CURE required travel expenses will be covered by the organization.
Frequency of travel will be up to 40%. Travel will be required to provide support to hospital accounting teams, with an average of 4-5 country visits every 6 months.
Ideal candidates will be located on continent in Africa with easy access to airports for business travel.
Responsibilities or duties
- Provide accounting support to Hospital Controllers.
- Review hospitals’ financial transactions and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness in Odoo.
- Implement and monitor fraud detection measures to safeguard financial integrity.
- Oversee cash advances to ensure timely liquidation.
- Monitor accounts receivables to ensure timely debt collection.
- Ensure all hospital accounts are properly reconciled including AR, AP, Fixed Assets, Prepaids, etc.
- Monitor hospital liabilities to ensure timely and accurate payments.
- Collaborate with Hospital Controllers to complete month-end closing procedures according to the agreed timeline.
- Implement and follow the month-end and year-end checklists.
- Travel to hospitals as needed to provide on-site financial support and resolve issues.
- Visit each assigned hospital at least twice a year for support and oversight.
- Assist Hospital Controllers in implementing internal audit recommendations.
- Help finance teams develop schedules to fully implement audit recommendations.
- Support Hospital Controllers during external audits.
- Review and verify audit reports and management letters.
- Work with Hospital Controllers to coordinate cash management processes, including revenue collection, disbursement control, shortfall coverage, cash forecasting, and idle funds investment.
- Prepare cash forecasts and monitor cash flow to maintain appropriate operating cash balances in line with CURE International guidelines.
- Assist the International Accounting Director with various assignments.
- Prepare reports on assigned tasks.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Current and active license as a Chartered Accountant, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or equivalent, preferred.
Experience needed
- Minimum of seven (7) years related experience in supporting the accounting and financial reporting functions of a small to medium-sized organization.
- International organization experience preferred, but not required.
- Non-profit experience preferred, but not required.
- Internal auditing experience preferred, but not required.
