Women In Technology Uganda (WITU), grounded in Gender Equality and empowerment of women is committed to making its contribution to narrowing the gender technological gap and economic growth for women youth in Africa, through both digital and entrepreneurial skills development and Innovation by unlocking opportunities for women youth through quality skills training and mentorship.

Under its Digital Job Center flagship initiative of the Digital Economy Program, WITU aims to empower young women with the knowledge and tools necessary to thrive in the digital economy focusing on high-demand digital skills such as basic ICT, graphic design, and digital marketing, including social media management, data analytics, digital marketing, software development, and more. The goal is to bridge the gap between education and employment by preparing young women to meet dynamic industry tech needs and connecting them with Potential employers. The program addresses the gap for qualified female digital professionals while simultaneously tackling the digital gender gap by providing targeted training and career support to women aged 18-35 years.

In partnership with the 10X Digital Economy Program: Elevating Young Women for Dignified Work in the Digital Economy, WITU has expanded her reach of the Digital Job Center program, allowing more young women to receive high-quality digital training to increase their employability within the digital space. This partnership enables WITU to deliver even more value to employers by providing a more diverse and skilled talent pool.

Within the framework of dignified and fulfilling lives, WITU intends to build the capacities of its participants to ably seize any employment opportunities at their disposal during and after the skilling program. By providing mentorship and job readiness skills to its participants, in addition to digital skilling. WITU therefore seeks a dynamic and empathetic Job Placement Co-ordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of interpersonal skills, market knowledge, and ethical integrity to successfully connect job seekers with meaningful work opportunities. The Job Placement Coordinator will be reporting to the Program Manager and who will be the point of contact on the contract.

Responsibilities or duties

Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities

Candidate Assessment and Support

  • Conduct in-depth interviews with job seekers to understand their skills, experience, and career goals
  • Assess candidates' strengths and areas for improvement
  • Provide personalized career guidance and job search strategies
  • Assist candidates in developing and refining their resumes and cover letters
  • Prepare candidates for interviews through coaching and mock interview sessions
  • Mentor, motivate and enable job seekers to build on strengths, develop goals and set objectives to achieve these.
  • Coordinate and monitor job seeker participation in identified activities within the various programs to ensure assistance towards achieving identified goals

Employer Engagement:

  • Conduct face to face off site employer engagement activities to build and maintain employer and industry relationships to assist in achieving job seeker outcomes
  • Understand employers' hiring needs, company culture, and job requirements
  • Actively source job opportunities from existing and new employer partners
  • Organize and participate in job fairs and networking events

Job Matching and Placement

  • Utilize job matching tools and platforms to identify suitable positions for candidates
  • Present qualified candidates to employers for consideration
  • Facilitate the interview process between candidates and employers
  • Negotiate job offers and assist in the onboarding process when necessary

Market Research and Trend Analysis:

  • Stay informed about local and industry job market trends
  • Conduct research to identify emerging career opportunities and in-demand skills
  • Provide insights to both candidates and employers about market conditions

Database Management:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of candidates, employers, and job placements
  • Use applicant tracking systems or CRM software to manage the placement process
  • Generate reports on placement activities and success rates

Continuous Improvement:

  • Seek and incorporate feedback from both candidates and employers to improve services
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase placement success rates
  • Stay updated on best practices in job placement and career counseling

Ethical Practice and Compliance:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of candidate and employer information
  • Ensure all placement activities comply with relevant labor laws and regulations
  • Uphold high ethical standards in all interactions and decision-making processes

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Work effectively with other team members to achieve placement goals
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of placement strategies
  • Share knowledge and best practices with colleagues

Professional Development:

  • Engage in continuous learning to enhance job placement skills and knowledge
  • Attend relevant workshops, seminars, or training sessions
  • Stay informed about changes in the job market and recruitment practices

  • Support and work with job seekers to develop personalised plans, set long and short term goals and identify and arrange specialised assistance as appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in development studies, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field (master's degree is an added advantage).
  • At least 3–4 years of relevant experience in program or project coordination, preferably within an NGO or development context.
  • Employment Services, community services, youth or social sciences
  • Experience supporting donor-funded programs is an added advantage.
