Background

Soroti University is a Public University in Uganda located in Soroti City, Eastern Uganda Seven (7) kilometres along Soroti-Moroto Road. The University Secretary hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the vacant posts listed below that exist in the University:

Purpose of the Job

To conduct high-quality research and teach undergraduate students as appropriate.

Person Specifications

  • Earned Master’s Degree and PhD in Electrical Drives OR Power Engineering OR related field from a recognized Institution/ University.
  • Honours Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering OR Electrical Engineering OR in related field from a recognized Institution/University.
  • Should have excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills.
  • Should have proven ability to conduct scholarly research.
  • Should be computer literate.
  • Should have the ability to work in a team and create network among colleagues.
  • Teaching experience gained from a recognized institution of higher learning will be an added advantage.
  • Should have a good track record of service to the public.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To guide and advise students on their academic performance and answer their queries on academic issues.
  • To participate in the supervision of practicals.
  • To conduct research in areas of specialization and disseminate the research findings.
  • To supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking research projects.
  • To organize, attend and conduct seminars and relevant training.
  • To set tests, examinations and course work according to University standards and policies.
  • To mark tests and examinations scripts according to approved grading standards of the University.
  • To contribute to the University and wider society through community service.

Key Outputs

  • Lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students conducted.
  • Students guided and advised on their academic performance.
  • Practicals for students supervised.
  • Research in areas of specialization among the communities conducted and findings disseminated.
  • Students undertaking research supervised and mentored.
  • Seminars and relevant training organized, conducted and attended.
  • Tests, examinations and course works set.
  • Tests and examinations scripts and results compiled.
  • Community service to the University and wider society carried out.
