Role Summary

The Live-in Patron is responsible for the care, safety, discipline, and daily supervision of boys in the boarding section. Residing within the school, the Patron ensures learners follow routines, maintain hygiene, and feel safe and supported in a positive, orderly environment.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Care and Supervision of Learners

  • Supervise boys throughout the day and night in the boarding section.
  • Ensure all learners are safe, well-cared for, and properly guided.
  • Support learners with personal needs and promptly report serious issues to the Head Teacher.
  • Promote discipline, respect, and good behaviour among the boys.

Health, Hygiene, and Cleanliness

  • Monitor boys’ health daily and provide basic first aid when necessary.
  • Ensure sick learners are referred to the school nurse or health facility.
  • Supervise bathing, laundry, and bed making routines.
  • Ensure dormitories, bathrooms, and surrounding areas are clean, safe, and orderly.

Daily Boarding Routines

  • Ensure boys follow daily schedules, including wake-up, meals, study/prep time, prayers, and bedtime.
  • Take roll calls and account for all learners in the section.
  • Support learners to eat properly and follow mealtime rules.

Boarding Facilities and Property

  • Take care of boarding items such as beds, mattresses, bedding, and other supplies.
  • Report damaged or missing items to school management.
  • Ensure facilities are used properly and maintained in good condition.

Communication and Teamwork

  • Work closely with teachers and other staff to support learners’ wellbeing.
  • Communicate welfare or behaviour concerns to the Head Teacher when necessary.
  • Support school activities and programs involving boys in boarding.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Ability to read and write; formal training in child care or education is an advantage.
  • Experience working with boys in schools, boarding, or home care settings preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic hygiene, child care, and safety practices is helpful.

Personal Qualities

  • Caring, patient, responsible, and firm.
  • Trustworthy and respectful.
  • Committed to protecting and safeguarding children
  • Willing to live full-time on school premises.
  • Able to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Willing to uphold the core values of Rukundo Preparatory School.
  • Able to communicate in English (can hear and speak English)
  • Does NOT drink alcohol or use any other intoxicating substances
