JOB PURPOSE

 

 

to plan and design drilling and other engineering activities in exploration areas 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Prepare well design, drilling program and undertake well planning.
  • Propose well trajectories, completions and perforations.
  • Prepare and evaluate drilling and completion programs and reports.
  • Prepare and evaluate engineering aspects of technical proposals.
  • Monitor acquisition and interpretation of engineering data.
  • Prepare the technical specifications for drilling equipment and services required for exploration activities.
  • Monitor the drilling of exploration and appraisal wells to ensure that all identified objectives are met in a safe and timely manner.
  • Assist in the development of operational procedures and ensure that all exploration operations are conducted according to approved procedures.
  • Coordinate the verification and inspection of materials and equipment for drilling operation and assure all requirements, special terms and conditions are met.
  • Prepare Work Programs and Budgets for Drilling Section.
  • Monitor and supervise the drilling of exploration and appraisal wells to ensure that all identified objectives are met in a safe manner.
  • Identify and evaluate technical, regulatory and economic risks associated with geological aspects exploration projects.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental considerations during exploration activities.
  • Evaluate and recommend industry leading geological technologies, tools and software for exploration projects.
  • Propose and implement innovative approaches within exploration team to enhance engineering data analysis and interpretation.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to Management and stakeholders on exploration progress, drilling and other developments.
  • Participate in negotiation of joint venture agreements.
  • Participation in meetings with joint venture Partners and Authorities, when required.
  • Train and coach graduate engineers and graduate trainees.
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor(s).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Drilling, Petroleum, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Manufacturing /Production Engineering.
  • Minimum four (4) years relevant experience in Oil & Gas industry.
  • Membership in the relevant oil and gas industry professional bodies like SPE, AAPG, and SEG is an added advantage.
  • Proven experience in well-site operations.
  • Extensive experience in exploration and engineering in the oil and gas industry.

Skills & Competencies

  • Negotiation skills and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Hands-on experience in engineering software suites.
  • Must have knowledge of Ugandan’s Oil and Gas regulatory frameworks.
  • Good understanding of HSE regulations, practices, and environmental considerations in oil and gas operations.
  • Proficiency in well planning and drilling operations.
  • Good leadership qualities and a team player
