Job Description
1. Engine & Mechanical Systems Expertise
- Engine Fundamentals: Apply in-depth technical knowledge of diesel/gas engine fundamentals, including fuel delivery, lubrication systems, cooling circuits, and exhaust systems.
- Diagnostics & Repair: Conduct advanced engine diagnostics encompassing checks on compression, fuel injection timing, turbochargers, and governors.
- Maintenance Execution: Lead both preventive and corrective maintenance practices for engine systems, ensuring adherence to manufacturer and internal operational standards.
- Hands-on Skills: Demonstrate expert hands-on skills in the full lifecycle of engine component repair, including disassembly, repair, and reassembly of critical engine parts.
2. Electrical & Power Systems
- Generator Principles: Master the principles of alternator/synchronous generators and their associated excitation systems for stable power production.
- Power Quality: Maintain and adjust voltage regulation and frequency control systems to meet strict power quality standards.
- Synchronization: Implement and manage complex synchronization procedures for paralleling multiple generators with each other or with the utility grid.
- Distribution & Protection: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and testing of power distribution systems, including high-voltage switchgear, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and circuit breakers.
- Load Management: Perform advanced load calculations and load balancing across systems and ensure proper implementation of electrical protection schemes.
3. Controls & Automation Integration
- Control Systems: Expertly configure, troubleshoot, and maintain manufacturer-specific control systems, such as Cummins Power Command control systems (PC1, PC2, PC3, PC4, etc.).
- Remote Management: Manage and monitor remote monitoring and telemetry systems to track engine and generator performance and preemptively identify potential issues.
- Automation: Utilize knowledge of PLC basics to program, maintain, and interface generator controls with larger building management systems (BMS).
- Switchgear Control: Ensure flawless operation of Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) and complex parallel switchgear for seamless power source transition.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience in the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of large-scale industrial diesel or gas generator sets.
- Deep understanding of high-voltage power generation, distribution, and control electronics.
- Proven experience working with generator control panels and switchgear automation.
- Certification or specialized training from major generator manufacturers (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar, Kohler) is highly preferred.
- Strong leadership, project management, and emergency response capabilities.
