Background
Soroti University is a Public University in Uganda located in Soroti City, Eastern Uganda Seven (7) kilometres along Soroti-Moroto Road. The University Secretary hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the vacant posts listed below that exist in the University:
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide academic leadership and knowledge in the relevant discipline and lead the development and implementation of research and publications.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
1. Must have a PhD in Civil, Structural, Environmental, Construction Management or related field from a recognized Institution/ University
2. A Bachelors and Master’s degree in Civil, or Structural or Environmental Engineering or related field from a recognized Institution or University
3. Must be at the minimum level of Associate Professor with at least ten (10) years of teaching/research experience in a recognized University/Institution.
4. Must have published at least ten articles in peer reviewed journals, or ten book chapters (five of which should have been published after the last promotion) or two books with ISBN Number.
5. Evidence of supervision of Graduate students to completion.
6. Should have contributed to community service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To provide academic leadership, guidance and mentorship in the department.
- To prepare and deliver lectures to students.
- To conduct seminars and tutorials.
- To advise students on their academic performance.
- To participate in curriculum development and review.
- To supervise student projects, field trips and placements where required.
- To set, mark and assess course work and examinations and provide timely feedback to students.
- To prepare and submit proposals and applications to external bodies for funding and accreditation purposes.
- To conduct research and produce scholarly publications.
- To promote quality assurance in all spheres of service delivery.
- To initiate and participate in outreach services for the development of the community.
- To give an inaugural lecture in the relevant discipline.
KEY OUTPUTS
- Academic leadership and guidance provided.
- Lectures prepared and delivered.
- Seminars and tutorials conducted.
- Students guided and advised on their performance.
- Student projects, field trips and placements supervised.
- Coursework and examinations set and marked, and timely feedback given.
- Proposals and applications for funding and accreditation developed.
- Research undertaken and scholarly publications produced.
- Quality assurance in service delivery promoted.
- Community outreach programmes are undertaken.
