On behalf of Akampamani Sanctuary, we are looking for a competent and experienced Sanctuary Manager

Duty Station: Bukooma, Luuka District

Start of work: 1st June 2026

About Akampamani Sanctuary

Akampamani Sanctuary is a peaceful, culturally grounded hospitality destination designed as a place to slow down, rest, and reconnect. Set in the heart of Busoga, it offers guests a quiet base from which to explore the region’s cultural richness—villages, landscapes, and heritage sites all within one hour.

The sanctuary is intentionally small and human-scaled, with a limited number of cottages that ensure privacy, stillness, and personal hosting. Guests are welcomed as respectful visitors, engaging in meaningful cultural experiences guided by local communities.

Food at Akampamani is an extension of this philosophy—simple, fresh, local, and thoughtfully prepared.

Job Summary: The Sanctuary Manager is the custodian of Akampamani’s experience and ethos.

They are responsible for preparing, launching, and running the sanctuary in a way that protects its core promise: peace, dignity, and meaningful cultural connection.

This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring equal attention to People (guests, staff, community partners), Place (environment, facilities, atmosphere), Purpose (Tusangaire mission and cultural integrity).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Opening Leadership (June – July 2026)

  • Lead all preparations for August 2026 soft launch
  • Recruit and train a small, values-aligned team
  • Develop and implement simple, effective SOPs
  • Set up systems for:
    • Guest hosting and reservations
    • Daily operations and reporting
    • Procurement and inventory
  • Conduct trial runs to ensure readiness

Stewardship of Guest Experience

  • Personally oversee guest arrival, stay, and departure experience
  • Ensure the sanctuary remains:
    • Quiet
    • Clean
    • Safe
    • Restful
  • Handle guest needs and concerns with care and discretion
  • Protect the sanctuary from noise, overcrowding, or misuse

Cultural Experience Integration

  • Build and maintain relationships with:
    • Local guides
    • Families and cultural custodians
    • Community partners
  • Coordinate cultural experiences that are:
    • Respectful
    • Authentic
    • Well-organized
  • Ensure fair and timely benefit sharing with communities

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Recruit and mentor staff from local communities where possible
  • Train staff in:
    • Hospitality and hosting
    • Cultural sensitivity
    • Professional conduct
  • Foster a calm, respectful, and accountable team culture

Financial & Operational Management

  • Manage day-to-day operational costs
  • Maintain basic financial records and reporting
  • Ensure efficient use of resources without compromising quality

Growth & Continuity

  • Support the gradual expansion from 5 to 15 cottages
  • Maintain quality and atmosphere as the sanctuary grows
  • Provide insights to ownership on improvements and strategy

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in hospitality, lodge, or guesthouse management
  • Experience in small-scale or boutique settings preferred
  • Strong leadership and organizational ability
