Job overview
CIYOTA is seeking a qualified and committed Secondary School Head Teacher to provide leadership and management of CIYOTA Secondary School in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement.
The Head Teacher will oversee academic quality, staff performance, student welfare and safeguarding, and school operations in line with CIYOTA policies and Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the school.
- Oversee curriculum implementation and ensure quality teaching and learning.
- Supervise, mentor, and appraise teaching and non-teaching staff.
- Ensure student welfare, discipline, and strict adherence to child protection and safeguarding standards.
- Manage day-to-day school operations, records, and resources.
- Prepare school work plans, budgets, and reports.
- Build strong relationships with parents, community leaders, and education stakeholders.
- Monitor school performance and drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- PGDE or training in Education Management/Leadership is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role at secondary school level.
- Strong knowledge of the Uganda secondary school curriculum and Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) regulations.
- Experience in safeguarding, child protection, and inclusive education.
- Experience working in refugee or NGO settings is an added advantage.
- Strong leadership, communication, and people-management skills.
- High integrity, accountability, and commitment to child safeguarding.
- Ability to work effectively in a refugee-settlement environment.
- Good planning, reporting, and organizational skills.
- Computer literacy (MS Office and basic school systems).
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of Swahili, Kinyabwisha, Kinyarwanda or any other languages spoken in the settlement is an added advantage.
