Job Purpose

To design, implement, manage and secure databases to ensure high availability, performance, and data integrity.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Install, configure, upgrade, and manage database software (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
    • Ensure backup and recovery mechanisms are in place and tested regularly.
    • Monitor database performance and perform tuning as needed.
    • Set up and manage replication, clustering, and high-availability configurations.
    • Develop and enforce database policies, procedures, and standards.
    • Maintain database documentation including architecture, configuration, and change logs.
    • Collaborate with development and operations teams to optimize database interaction.
    • Implement security measures to protect sensitive data.

Person Specifications

Academic Qualifications

    • An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from a recognized institution.
    • A Postgraduate Diploma in Database Management, Information Systems or a related field is an added advantage.
    • Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft SQL Server Certification, or PostgreSQL are an added advantage.

Work Experience

At least five (5) years’ experience in database administration, three (3) of which should have been at Officer level in a reputable institution.
