Job Purpose   

Assist the Principal Legal Officer in supervising staff, drafting legal documents and formulating compliance checklists and represent the university in all legal matters.

 Key Duties & Responsibilities            

1.    Supervise junior legal officers and other staff providing legal support work;

2.    Participate in planning, organizing and preparing the work programme;

3.    Represent the university in all legal matters;

4.    Participate in the management of the activities within the Department by providing technical guidance;

5.    Prepare and /or review legal opinions;

6.    Participate in the review of legal/court documents for completeness and accuracy;

7.    Participate in court case preparation work and prepare draft pleadings for filing;

8.    Conduct research and analyse legal matters pertinent to the university;

9.    Participate in the review of existing rules and regulations;

10. Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

 Required Qualifications         

  • An Honor’s Bachelor of Laws Degree;
  • A Diploma in Legal Practice (LDC);
  • Enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a valid practicing certificate;
  • A Master of Laws Degree from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.

 Experience     

Minimum of 3 years relevant working experience at the rank of Legal Officer in a Law firm or legal unit of a reputable organization in the areas of intellectual property and criminal law.

 Skills/Competences  

  • Ability to build, lead and work with teams;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Quick judgement and decision making;
  • Ability to initiate change.
