ROLE SUMMARY

Responsible for ensuring safe, seamless, cost-effective and efficient airport operations while protecting Uganda Airlines’ image, on-time performance, revenue, stakeholder relations and compliance with all regulatory requirements at Johannesburg Station.

STATION MANAGER – JOHANNESBURG

POSITION: Station Manager

REPORT LINE: Primary – Country Manager | Functional – Head of Ground Operations

ROLE SUMMARY:

Oversight, coordination and enforcement of safe, efficient and customer-focused airport operations, ensuring on-time performance, effective ground handling, safety and security compliance, strong stakeholder engagement, and optimal resource utilization for Uganda Airlines at Johannesburg Station.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure cost-effective delivery of all ground handling services including check-in, airport customer experience, baggage handling and ramp operations.
  • Drive a strong “On-Time Performance” (OTP) culture across the station and engage stakeholders to meet and exceed punctuality targets.
  • Ensure all Uganda Airlines flights are met on arrival and departure by the Station Manager or designated representative.
  • Manage Mishandled Baggage (MHB), maintaining performance targets (3 per 1000 pax).
  • Establish and maintain a station internal quality audit programme and training matrix for all ground operations staff.
  • Organize and structure station operations to meet current and future Uganda Airlines needs.
  • Implement strategies to enhance safety and security performance across all airport operations.
  • Interpret, implement and monitor safety standards, regulations and promote security awareness.
  • Identify and report hazards, near misses, incidents and accidents, while maintaining a station risk register.
  • Prepare and submit Monthly Station Reports covering all ground handling and operational activities.
  • Support, coach and develop a high-performance team capable of meeting operational benchmarks with minimal supervision.
  • File flight plans when necessary, ensuring compliance with legal and operational requirements.
  • Train and develop airport staff in line with Uganda Airlines’ strategic and business objectives.
  • Ensure a healthy, safe and secure working environment in line with industry and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure all operations comply with regulatory requirements, Uganda Airlines standards, and IATA/ICAO procedures.
  • Ensure non-compliances identified through audits are reported, tracked and closed within required timelines, including root-cause corrective actions.
  • Set, monitor and manage station revenue performance metrics in collaboration with the commercial team.
  • Represent Uganda Airlines at the Airport Operators Committee (AOC) meetings and provide updates to the business.
  • Build and manage high-level relationships with clients and stakeholders to promote the airline’s brand and commercial interests.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • University degree in Commerce, Business Administration or related field.
  • IATA Diploma (mandatory).
  • 8–10 years' airline experience at senior management level, including at least 5 years managing a major airline hub.
  • Strong management, communication and leadership skills.
  • Strategic planning and resource optimization capability.
  • Extensive knowledge of aviation operations and ground support systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and deliver results.
  • Strong commercial acumen and revenue management orientation.
  • High levels of integrity and professionalism.
