Background information about the job or company:
We are seeking a results-driven Transport Manager to oversee our fleet operations, ensure service excellence, and optimize operational efficiency across Uganda and neighboring countries.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the transport team, including drivers, workshop staff, and subcontracted transport providers.
- Develop logistics service strategies aligned with market demands, profitability, and organizational capacity.
- Monitor fleet performance (Uganda, Kenya, EDRC, South Sudan) using KPIs such as turnaround times, on-time deliveries, and trips per truck.
- Manage operational relationships with internal departments and external clients, primarily in Aid & Relief.
- Oversee workshop administration, procurement, maintenance scheduling, stock management, and cost control.
- Supervises the use of workshop management systems (MAXIMO or similar), ensuring accurate and timely data entry.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives and monitor workshop and fleet expenses.
- Ensure subcontracted transport providers meet contractual obligations, performance standards, and safety regulations.
- Supervises fleet tracking, operational planning, documentation, and reporting.
- Monitor and analyze operational costs, including fuel, maintenance, and staff expenditures, identifying opportunities for savings.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives such as driver training and route optimization.
- Ensure cost control and accountability within the workshop and transport functions to achieve budget and EBITDA targets.
- Communicate the company's strategic objectives to the transport team, ensuring alignment and motivation toward shared goals.
- Work closely with internal departments, including Sales, QHSE, and Finance, to deliver seamless service and compliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years' experience managing a fleet of 25+ trucks.
- In-depth knowledge of East African regional logistics and URA Customs procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with fleet management software (eg, Telematix).
- Excellent communication, administration, and team leadership skills.
Experience needed:
Supervisory experience with a proven track record
Skills:
- Advanced Excel, Word, and SPSS knowledge
