Political tension continues to rise in Makindye West Constituency as David Musiri and Allan Sewanyana officially declared their intentions to contest as independent candidates.
On Wednesday afternoon, activist and former head of NUP’s Institutions Wing, David Musiri, took to social media to announce his independent bid, attracting massive support from his followers who applauded his decision.
“No one can stop an idea whose time has come. Kati ffe tujja 🫵🔥… The rest is background noise!” he wrote, unveiling his campaign symbol — the megaphone.
Later that afternoon, former MP Allan Sewanyana also confirmed he would be running independently, citing dissatisfaction with the National Unity Platform’s vetting process.
“I was never given the results or told why I was denied the party ticket. I have decided to run independently because I have the people’s support,” Sewanyana explained.
Despite breaking away from the party line, both Musiri and Sewanyana pledged continued support for NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, who is seeking the country’s top office in the upcoming general elections.
