Come June 2018, Makerere University will no longer be providing meals to students in the Halls of residence.

The decision which is likely to affect the welfare of many government sponsored students came after a report from the Makerere University Finance and planning Committee presented findings from a survey conducted among government resident and nonresident students.

According to the survey which was presented to journalists by the Dean of Students Mr Cyriaco Kabagambe over 50 percent of the students recommended that the University should scrap off the meals and instead be given money to buy themselves food.

Government has been providing food to every government sponsored student in the Halls of Residence at an estimated cost of 4000Shs each but this Policy will be no more come June this year.
