Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze also Shadow Cabinet spokesperson has expressed concern over the recent police shake up by IGP Okoth Ochola , saying that reshuffling officers around every now and then will not improve the image and efficiency of our Police force .
According to a statement issued on Sunday, 13, Nambooze says the opposition ‘majority side’ she speaks for strongly believes that the force needs a complete overhaul, politicization, and demilitarization.
“Our strong view is that the force needs a complete overhaul, depoliticisation, and demilitarization,” says Nambooze.
The Saturday shakeup in the Police saw Emilian Kayima replaced by Fred Enanga as Police spokesperson to be deputized by Polly Namaye.
Enanga who once held the same position was dropped along with his deputy Namaye by former IGP, Kale Kayihura in 2016. He was replaced later by the late AIGP, Andrew Felix Kaweesi who was assassinated in March 2017.
The shakeup also saw Patrick Onyango posted as Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson. Luke Oweyesigire, who has been the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, was dropped to deputise Onyango.
Onyango who was Kayima’s deputy was transferred to the office of Political Commissar.
According to Nambooze, the opposition “Minority government” believes that the police system has greatly affected the image of the Police and killed the public confidence in the force.
