There was drama today as retired Maj General Kasirye Ggwanga shot at a car belonging to singer Catherine Kusasira in Makindye, a Kampala suburb.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the shooting started when Gwanga’s children who were allegedly buying chips asked Kusasira’s aides to reduce the loud music that was playing in their vehicle.
It is said that on refusal to heed to the request, Kasirye Gwanga’s children called their father.
“Maj Gen Ggwanga’s children were buying chips when the aides of Ms Kusasira arrived in car, whose music was loud. Maj Gen Ggwanga’s children told Ms Kusasira’s aides to turn down the volume, but they refused. Maj Gen Ggwanga’s children said they would call their father and burn their cheap car,” SP Onyango said.
“Ms Kusasira’s aides told Maj Gen Ggwanga that he wasn’t above the law. Then verbal exchange ensued. It is alleged that Maj Gen Ggwanga ordered one of his bodyguards (unidentified) to bring him his gun, and he then shot the tyre of Ms Kusasira’s car,” he added.
After the shooting, Maj Gen Ggwanga is said to have thereafter entered his car and drove off.
Onyango, however, said there was no one injured during the fracas but noted that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
“Police officers were called in and they have visited the scene and a case has been registered under SD reference 107/29/1/2019. We will invite all the parties to record their statements,” he said.
Kusasira confirmed to our reporter that she was not in the car when the incident happened, but said a police case had been filed whereas Gwanga said her ‘boys’ were uncontrollably drunk and that acted as a wake up call for them.
Kasirye Gwanga is not new to controversy because in August 2017, the no nonsense man (then at the rank of brigadier), burnt the tractor on the land which he said was owned by his daughter at Naziba village on Lubowa hill in Ndejje, off Entebbe Road over alleged land grabbing.
It was reported that the grader had been hired to clear the piece of land but on seeing it, Gwanga poured petrol on it before setting it ablaze, making the driver acquire athlete skills.
He bragged about setting the tractor on fire, saying it would serve as a lesson for other land grabbers.
“I burnt that tractor. Tell them. I am now hunting them. I am a bad hunter. Let them know,” Gwanga said.
He wasn’t charged with any offence, although the grader owner later dragged the retired army officer to court seeking or compensation over the burnt grader.
