Makerere University students have condemned the arrest of their colleagues and continued harassment by the police.

Students were today blocked by police and military from holding their General Assembly to discuss the on-going sit-down strike by the university staff.

The staff went on strike on January 18 following the suspension of Dr Kamunyu, the Makerere University Academic Staff Association – MUASA Chairperson and Bennet Magara and Joseph Kalema the leaders of the Makerere Administrative Staff Association – MASA.

Police blocked the meeting and engaged in running battles with the students, which led to the arrest of some students.
