The jailed Club Govnor murder suspect, Ivan Kamyuka ,who was convicted of manslaughter, can now smile after he was today granted a 10 million shillings’ bail by Court of Appeal, pending hearing of his appeal challenging conviction.

Jailed for at least five years, Kamyuka, a Human Resource Manager at Lake Bounty Ltd, was convicted of Manslaughter in June 2018 and jailed, after the evidence presented in court indicated that he stabbed Johnny Ahimbisibwe, a patron of Club Guvnor during a brawl in Guvnor leading to his death on August 2, 2015.

The fight started after Kamyuka found his wife Nina Nyarwaha chatting with Ahimbisibwe, her ex-lover and father of her child. Ahimbisibwe was rushed to Case Medical Centre in Kampala, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Although he was initially charged with murder, presiding Judge Wilson Kwesiga reduced the case to manslaughter on grounds that Kamyuka acted in self-defense while trying to save Nyarwaha from an attacker, who coincidentally turned out to be her ex-lover.

But, Kamyuka appealed against the conviction. His lawyer Julius Galisonga observed that the lower court erred in law and fact when it convicted Kamyuka on speculation. Galisonga maintains that there was no proof to show that Ahimbisibwe died of injuries as the court record indicates.

Court of Appeal Justice Cheborion Barishaki said that the sureties were substantial because besides being relatives of the accused, they presented valid documents clearly indicating their places of abode in Entebbe and Kisaasi.

Barishaki also agreed with the convict Kamyuka that there was a likelihood of delay in the determination of his Appeal since the court has many pending cases. Kamyuka is now expected to report to the Court of Appeal Registry on February 22, 2019.
