Drama ensued as Makindye West Member of Parliament; Allan Ssewanyana resisted arrest for his hilarious plan to close Mulago Referral Satellite Hospital of Kiruddu ,accusing management of failure to construct a better sewerage management system.
Ssewanyana who arrived at the hospital armed with a chain to close the hospital gate was, however, stopped by police officers who arrested him. He had earlier told journalists that he had information government released Shs3 billion for a sewerage lagoon but no work is being done.
Kiruddu hospital has faced criticism over its defective sewage disposal system with some residents alleging, on several occasions, that the hospital authorities were letting sewerage into their homes.
When contacted, the hospital director, Dr Charles Kabugo declined to comment, saying he was attending a meeting.
Last month, Sarah Opendi, the State Minister of Health in charge of General Duties revealed that the Ministry of Finance had released 3.5 billion shillings for setting up a modern sewer at Kiruddu Hospital in a bid to resolve a long-standing sewage problem.
