Mityana municipality MP , Francis Zzake returns to court in the northern town of Gulu today to request for bail.

Gulu Chief Magistrate Isaac Kintu last week  remanded Mr. Zaake until March 14 when he will be returned to court for further mention of the treason case against him.

The MP is facing among others treason charges stemming from the August 2018 election violence in Arua.

He is also alleged to have escaped from police custody shortly after he was arrested in Arua.

On top of this, police are now accusing the MP of flouting his bond terms, by refusing to report back to the police as he agreed.

The MP according to Police, was supposed to report back to the Police CID on December 5th last year which he didn’t.

“The police made several attempts to make him report back including through his lawyer Nicholas Opiyo, but in vein,” said Police spokesman Fred Enanga in a statement.

Enanga described the arrest of Hon Zaake as “necessary for the integrity of the Criminal JusticeSystem.”

He said many suspects, mostly politicians had made it a habit “politicizing and snubbing the legalprocedures in place.”

“We want to inform the public that the police has a primary responsibility to pursue and rearrest suspects who deliberately attempt to escape justice.
