The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has stressed that female Members of Parliament cannot be bullied by Male MPs when she has the power to protect them.
Speaking ahead of Women’s Day celebrations tomorrow, Kadaga decried the patriarchy that is still rooted deep in our society ,noting that ,even getting to the position of speaker was not easy for her as, some thought it should have been a man but she defeated them by being excellent.
Kadaga added that she knows some parliaments where some female MPs are bullied but it will never happen here in Uganda for as long as she remains the speaker.
Kadaga is serving her last term as Speaker of Parliament and could only rise to the position of Vice President or President.
However, the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) recently endorsed Museveni to contest for another term of office.
And for decades, Museveni is said to have preserved the Vice President position for Catholic Baganda for regional balance.
The previous Baganda Vice Presidents include Edward Ssekandi, Samson Kisseka and Gilbert Bukenya.
This means Kadaga will either retire from politics or give the presidency a shot.
