Entebbe police has recovered the body of unidentified man in Nkumba–Bukolwa Village in Katabi town council.

The deceased’s body was found lying face on the ground this morning near a bungalow under construction next to the newly constructed Nkumba university playground.

The deceased’s body that was tied with a rope around the elbows was found lying next to stones and iron bars. It had wounds on the head.

Kassim Mutaawe, a neighbor says they heard a man screaming in the wee hours of this morning but couldn’t tell where the screams were coming from.

Vincent Kasigwa, the Nkumba–Bukolwa Village Publicity Secretary, says he notified Mpala Police Station immediately he received information about the murder.

The officer in charge of Mpala Police Station, Joseph Sekitooleko, says preliminary investigations show that that the deceased was beaten to death after being found stealing.
A number of residents told police that there has been an escalation of thefts in Nkumba, a suburb of Katabi town council. Police acknowledges recording seven cases of vehicle thefts in the area.

The area lacks street lights. Several people in the area are also involved in stone quarrying. Steven Kasasa, a cyclist who operates within the area wants government to install CCTV cameras.

Today’s incident comes after three break-ins in more than eleven homes in Kabale cell and Katabi Busambaga.
More than 10 people have been murdered in different incidents in Entebbe and its neighboring areas in the past three months.
