Events promoter and proprietor of Abitex Promotions, Abbey Musinguzi alias Abitex has been arrested and detained in a mobile police cell along Busabala road ahead of Bobi Wine’s show.
He was arrested alongside music promoter Bajjo around 9:30am on Monday. Police heavily deployed at Bobi Wine’s One Love Beach -Busabala where the Ngule-Mu-Kyarenga concert was slated to occur.
Police mounted several road blocks on all routes plying to the beach. Heavy security checks of cars passing continuing from Entebbe express.
Passengers and locals were left to walk for close to a 2 kilometer distance.
Police and other security organs remained on standby waiting for Bobi Wine who was advancing from his home to Busabala. Earlier, the Police also carried out a security check on every vehicle proceeding to Busabala.
Bobi was arrested from Kingo road near his one love beach Busabala and hurled onto a police car that sped off to his home in Magere, Gayaza. His car was intercepted , broken into and the musician-turned legislator forcefully pulled out and hurled onto a police car that sped off leaving supporters and the other car occupants ‘counting stars’.
Bobi Wine could be heard crying out; ”You are breaking my hand…!” as police forced him to enter the car.
6 other Bobi Wine supporters were also arrested for inciting violence.
In a social media message before arrest, Bobi Wine said police and the military blocked him from reaching Busabala for a press conference about police brutality, injustice and abuse of authority.
“A citizen cannot be allowed to access his private property. Museveni!!! They teargassed and beat our people. Many have been arrested. Pepper sprayed.”
He added: “They have been trying to break into our car to arrest me. Now they are clamping our car to drag us away. Stand firm. We shall overcome.”
Police first surrounded Bobi Wine’s car with Mityana MP Francis Zaake inside it.
It used teargas and a water cannon to suppress his supporters and then towed away his car.
Officers finally managed to forcefully break into the Land Cruiser and pull out Bobi Wine.
They used shield guards to block journalists’ cameras from filming the break in.
The impasse follows a directive by AIGP Assuman Mugenyi to police commanders, to block all planned music concerts.
Bobi Wine had planned for these shows for Easter Monday.
He says he had requested for security a month ago but police could respond just days to the show date.
Last year, police blocked the musician’s Kyalenga Album launch at Namboole Stadium. Attempts to stage the show at his One Love Beach in Busabala, Wakiso District were also blocked.
Bobi Wine has since said they will not sit and watch as their rights continue to be violated.
