First Deputy Prime Minister, Moses Ali has asked Robert Kyagulanyi, to reduce his energy for defiance saying his continued use of this method will keep him in running battles with security bodies.

Moses Ali made the remarks on Tuesday while responding to questions raised by Rukungiri Municipality MP, Roland Mugume who tasked Government to explain why they have kept the Kyadondo East MP under house arrest with no explanation.

While raising the matter, Mugume raised a number of occasions opposition members have been barred from addressing electorates noting that there is the need for government to explain why they are harassing the opposition yet NRM Party members are busy campaigning for sole candidature and reasons need to be raised why government is denying Kyagulanyi from practising his profession as a musician.

It was then that Jacob Oulanyah, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament warned the opposition members against raising Parliament privileges and immunities as ground for the legislative body to intervene in Bobi Wine’s house arrest .

Oulanyah said Parliament is not a haven for criminality, adding that MPs, just like all other citizens, must abide by the law because there are limits to their privileges and immunity outside parliament.

“Parliament isn’t a haven or safety for criminal conduct. If you commit a crime you will be prosecuted the please remember this when you conduct your affairs.  Parliamentary privileges relate to what you say and do while in parliament not outside parliament. You will not have the protection of parliament. Let us be honourable in the way we do things.” Oulanyah argued.

He also ordered the Internal Affairs Minister to present a report this week in order to establish the facts on Kyagulanyi and activities of opposition parties.
