Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police have announced a list of standard procedures for motorists and road users to be followed during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Musinga Norman the Kampala Traffic Police commander says with the increased movements on the roads, there is a likelihood of road accidents, therefore regulations are one of the measures of avoiding or reducing road accidents.

SSP Musinga in a festive message to motorists and all road users at the central Police station (CPS)on Friday said a crash-free festive season can only be achieved through adherence and collective efforts from all road users.

Among them comprise, Carrying valid driving permits at all times, This Musinga said can only prove one is an authorized driver. He warned drivers with forged driving permits that there is already a serious operation to crack down on them in and outside Kampala.

Ensure that motor vehicles on the road are in good mechanical conditions and roadworthy by checking all brakes and tyres. He also advised drivers to always use seat belts on the road because 80 percent of victims perish as a result of this.

Avoid over-speeding and also driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Musinga warned drivers against hitting the road with no valid number plates, he added that such drivers will be detained for over 24 hours before being presented to courts of law.

He warned public vehicles that include Buses, Taxis, Coasters to not only comply with route charts and avoid return journeys but also avoid carrying excess passengers.

As for Boda Bodas Musinga advised them to be security conscious and avoid carrying one passenger late in the night.

He called on parents to avoid letting incompetent children drive and also asked for all road users to respect each other on the road.
