Renewed tribal clashes have been reported in Ituri province in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

This has led to Hundreds of Congolese nationals immigrating to Kikuube and Hoima districts respectively.

As of December 31st, 2019,350 refugees comprising of women, children and the elderly had already reached and registered at the Sebigoro reception center.

The clashes are said to have broken out between the two tribes of lendu and Bagegere early last week in the areas of Joo, Muvaramu, Mkpi, Thuruges, Tara, and Roo in Bunia district.

The Nkondo parish LC2 Chairperson, Peter Kyasimire says that local council leaders are currently collaborating with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees-UNHCR officials in screening and registering the refugees.

Samuel Kisembo the Hoima Resident District Commissioner-RDC says that they have beefed up security on the shores of Lake Albert to prevent wrong elements from taking advantage of the tribal clashes to cross into Uganda.

Kisembo says the screening exercise is happening at Sebigoro refugees’ reception Center in Kabwoya sub-county Kikuube district before transferring them to the Kyangwali refugee settlement camp.

As of December 2018, Uganda has registered a massive influx of an estimated18,000 Congolese nationals vacating the DRC through Lake Albert.
