It was a horrible scene in Luuka district when hunters discovered a decomposing left leg of a 13year old girl dismembered from her body and thrown in a sugarcane plantation.
According to the Village Publicist Secretary, Rashid Kabukye, the decomposing leg of the girl identified as Fatinah Kwatulila was found by hunters on Tuesday morning from a sugarcane plantation in Namalemba village in Bulongo Sub County.
The shocked hunters immediately sounded an alarm that attracted a crowd that also banged drums to alert the rest of the community.
The deceased’s aunt, Rachael Basilika, says the minor who was both deaf and dumb disappeared on February 17th, 2020 and a community search for her was mounted everywhere including the surrounding sugarcane plantations in vain.
She explained that it was easy to identify that the leg belonged to the deceased because she had a big birthmark on her left foot, that was clearly visible to everyone in the area on a daily basis as she went on her day’s child business.
Luuka Police was notified of the incident and recovered the left leg of Kwatulila.
Tony Bongo, the Officer in Charge of Operations Nakabugu Central Police Station, expressed deep regret at the incident and says police have deployed their canine unit to search for the missing body parts.
He noted that investigations are ongoing to fully ascertain the owner of the recovered leg and the assailants responsible for the gruesome murder.
