MP Annet Nyakecho has demanded government to allow Gen. Henry Tumukunde to walk free.

Gen. Tumukunde is a retired senior military officer of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.

On 3rd Mard 2020, he declared his Presidential Ambition officially and vowed to stand against President Museveni in the 2021 Uganda elections.

The High Court in Kampala denied him bail before being further remanded to Luzira prison.

Tumukunde is currently facing charges of treason and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Legilsator Nyakecho Tuesday after on the floor of Parliament asked the Speaker to add her voice for the release of Gen. Tumukunde whom she referred to as “Presidential Candidate”.

She alleged that the retired soldier was arrested for showing interest of being the President of Uganda. She demands for his release.

Nyakecho also alleged there is abuse of human rights in the detention centres around the country.

The Tororo North MP said that there are so many people in detention without trial.

She quizzed: “If an MP can be treated this way, what about the ordinary person?”

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has summoned the minister of Internal Affairs Major Gen. Jejje Odongo to appear before Parliament to explain the alleged torture of MP Francis Zaake whom she visited last week.
