32 people have tested positive for COVID-19 bringing the total number of infections in Uganda to now 489.
The results come from 2,116 samples that were tested on Monday, June 1.
The ministry of health says 19 of the new cases are truck drivers who entered the country through the Elegu, Malaba, Busia, and Mutukula border points.
13 cases are contacts of positive truck drivers and were picked from areas in highway towns of Tororo, Wakiso, Yumbe, Mpigi, Gomba, and Kyotera districts.
Dr. Charles Olaro, the Director of Clinical Services at the health ministry says they were all under quarantine, long before they were tested.
He says, all patients are in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
Also, 25 foreign drivers who tested positive were repatriated to their countries of origin.
During his COVID-19 address on Monday night, President Yoweri Museveni promised to stop the transfer of patients to other medical facilities and instead stage equipped treatment facilities at points of entry for drivers who test positive to get treatment.
COVID -19 patients are currently scattered across 15 referral hospitals in Uganda.
