Eng. Jacob Byabakama, the Deputy Director of Road Management, has revealed that in the next 3 days, the registration of Taxi’s will move to KCCA headquarters at City Hall.

Byabakama says this is a result of a significant reduction in the registration of Taxi operators at the designated points at both Kitante Primary School and Old Kampala Secondary School.

He says so far, Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA has registered 12,184 taxis as a directive in May 2020, to have all passenger service vehicles-PSV including Taxis to register with KCCA and Ministry of Works and Transport.

Among the requirements for registration included a copy of the motor vehicle logbook, a copy of the owner’s National Identification Card, Driver’s Driving Permit, and driver’s National ID.

The registered taxis are also allocated route numbers that specify their Taxi Park of origin and destination.

KCCA gazetted eight taxi Parks in Kampala; Old, New, Nateete, Nakawa, Namirembe, Usafi, Namayiba, and Kisenyi Taxi Parks and operators are issued with a route chart by the Ministry of Works and Transport.

Byabakama asserts that 8,636 taxis have so far secured route charts from the Ministry.

Byabakama now says that the ongoing exercise will be moved to KCCA headquarters at City Hall and taxis operating within Kampala shall have a unique color that distinguishes them from other taxis.

He says that that taxis should be branded by 30th June.
