President Museveni has advised Ugandans who love the bottle to turn their individual houses into private bars instead of gathering at neighbors’ houses for drink-ups.
The president said this on Monday night while updating the nation on the way forward in lifting the lockdown amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The president’s advice comes at a time when drunkards are forming groups to drink beer in bars illegally besides having house parties with zero social distancing.
The president who indicated that he is aware that people are in the business of consuming liquor cautioned Ugandans against defying the social distancing guidelines by converging in groups to take alcohol.
Museveni says the habit of zero social distancing promotes the transmission of the novel virus.
Meanwhile, Police in the Kampala metropolitan area is still struggling with bar owners who continue to disobey the presidential directives by illegally opening bars hence attracting reckless drunkards.
Over the weekend, police nabbed various drunkards and thigh vendors from Bweyogerere, Kirinya, Kireka, and Nansana, who were wasted in liquor at open bars.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said over 30 people were arrested and are detained at Nansana Police Station in relation to opening and attending to bars and a health club with Sauna operating.
Police carried out an operation in and around Makutano Hotel.
