The high count of persons infected with COVID-19 has shifted from truck drives to now community cases.

Today the Ministry of Health has confirmed 23 new infections from 2,219 samples tested on Monday bringing the total tally to now 797.

18 of these cases were from alerts and contacts from the community while only 5 were from truck drivers all Ugandans.

Of the community infections, 10 are from Tororo, 4 Kyotera,3 Amuru,1 Yumbe, and 1 at Elegu border.

The Ministry of Health says all positive cases were under quarantine at the time of the test.

Lately, positive cases have been identified from communities in various districts across Uganda like Entebbe, Kampala, Jinja, Buikwe, with Amuru and Kyotera alone confirming more than 50 cases to date.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the health minister says the spiraling infections in districts is a clear indication that the virus is fast spreading posing a huge threat to the country.

Of the 797  COVID-19 positive cases,98 are active patients while  699 have been discharged and 0 deaths.
