Police in Kireka is investigating a case of murder involving a 32-year-old woman who was electrocuted to death on Monday afternoon.
The deceased is Auma Rose a resident of the Kiganda zone in Kireka.
Auma was reportedly roasted to death while hanging her clothes onto a wire illegally connected to electricity that she mistook for an ordinary cloth wire.
Residents who witnessed the shocking scene play out made an alarm that attracted the local council authorities and eventually local police.
Police mouthpiece Fred Enanga says preliminary findings directed police to one Mukisa Juliet who is suspected of being responsible for trading in the illegal power supply.
Enanga says Mukisa who is currently detained at Kireka police post has been in the habit of illegally channeling power to her neighbors for Money.
Enanga says Mukisa will be charged with murder once investigations have concluded.
In 2016, the Ugandan electricity distributor, UMEME launched a nationwide campaign, which was set to address issues relating to illegal power connections and vandalism.
Early this year Umeme disconnected power of over 13,000 customers in areas around Kampala after discovering that over 70% of the power connections are illegal.
Umeme currently loses over shs2 billion monthly to illegal power connections.
