Kampala Metropolitan Police on Thursday afternoon frustrated a protest by Boda Boda cyclists who tried to block a motorcade of the President while matching to parliament to petition the speaker Rebbecca Kadaga over their plight.
The group operating in capital Kampala, headed by Sekitoleko Yassin decided to strike demanding that the President addresses their grievances on not being allowed to carry passengers.
The rowdy riders paralyzed traffic and business on some major junctions in the city center including Jinja Road, Queens’ way, and Pride Theatre junctions.
Police say the group tried to block the motorcade of the president in the process.
The bitter Boda Boda riders who had chains tied to their legs and interconnected matched on the streets with loudspeakers and blue placard reading; we are tired of exploitation”, ”will you pay our rent’, free Boda Boda’s,” Free the vulnerable poor” among others, while screaming for justice.
